Administrative
As an arts administrator in film and dance with roles ranging from producer to programmer to assistant, I have accumulated over a decade worth of wide-ranging, interdisciplinary experience. With both a fastidious eye towards detail as well as a keen sense of the big picture, I am able to grasp the intricacies of a project and its workflow.
With my desire to cultivate caring and compassionate working environments, I feel called to make myself available to help bring about other people’s projects or ideas. I’ve been a freelancer for many years, and have faced considerable burnout, to the point of walking away from the arts entirely. Often I’ve felt as producer that I am the doula of a project, and so I bring that mindset towards this practice. First and foremost is how we take care of ourselves and each other to make impactful work.
In my career, I’ve relied on the transference of skills and bring this philosophy to my approach. When often faced with an obstacle, I trust myself to cast the challenge in a framework that is familiar. I also rely on my love of research, I am a forever student— cracking the unknown and following the rabbit trail is an enduring pastime. If I don’t have the answer, I will seek where else to find the answer. I have been tending to and encouraging artistic practices that value in-depth conversation and listening around process and intended outcomes. I often advocate for slowing down and taking time to prepare, even if that means putting the work aside momentarily. A clear plan and division of labor often allows projects to move forward with more confidence in the end.
As your steward, my aim is to understand your capacity and where you are coming from— personally, culturally, and financially— and what then you are looking to accomplish. Together we will set forward a plan to achieve those goals, with built in check-ins to accommodate the inevitable shifts in scope or variables. My approach is geared towards articulating the inner workings of any process for sustained fulfillment, putting forward a plan that feels realistic and manageable. I also advocate for including the cost of my services in budgets for grants, and will help you do so. I believe that the financial gatekeepers should be aware of the costs for the kind of support needed to make any project come to life, as it takes community, and funders should be held accountable.

Movement
My years as a dancer inform how I move through the world. I see the our relationship to somatics, or our physical sensations, as one of the many ways to get to know ourselves.
In film, I believe eliciting sensation and feeling in order to convey story is just as important as crafting a narrative arc through dialogue. As someone who has a career as both a performer and as a filmmaker, I have highly specific experience to rely on when choreographing for the camera. I seek to find unique movement vocabularies that support the storyline and most importantly, empower the performers. With experience both on set and in the editing room, I am able to think about how to frame the movement and visualize the final scene.
Outside of traditional choreography, I can also help craft movement scenes that call for everyday action, such as people walking through a grocery store. Particularly, this is can come in handy for highly choreographed single takes. Culled from my years performing in immersive theater, I am also interested in performer’s body language. I call this somatic intention— how someone sits down, whether quickly or slowly for example, imparts of a lot of knowledge to an audience and can be crafted to be highly specific. Lastly, I am also trained in Pilates. I love to teach dancers, but also love to provide Pilates and bodywork to crews on film sets, and anyone else who is part of the creative process that engages in various forms of physical labor, which is usually everybody!

Rates
My rates will reflect what is sustainable towards my own cost of living in New York City, but ultimately I will make it a priority to determine what is best amongst us. I don’t believe cost should be a barrier of entry and recognize that I want to support my peers, and that the arts are severely and unjustly underfunded. Please reach out if you are interested! Let me know what you’re working on and how we could work together.
